Silver City, Michigan“Superior by Nature”Silver City, Michigan is the home to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. It all began with the scuttle about mining silver between 1872 and 1877. Business investments were made to start the silver mining process and build mills, but dividends were slim. The town had been named Iron River, then Silver City, then Beaser and back again to Silver City, which it is still named today. The Big Iron River and Little Iron River run through Silver City today along with many other small rivers. Wild, Wild Wilderness!Although at times Silver City has been equated with a ghost town, there is a rejuvenated life to the area. Now host to over 15 businesses, Silver City is a friendly welcoming town that is still primarily wilderness. Gift shops, restaurants boasting home-cooked meals, and small stores dot the area. With the Porkies on the west and Lake Superior to the north, wilderness is awaiting your discovery. As the ice forms on Lake Superior, you can see the wolves basking in their glory. If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle, come to Silver City, where your cell phone won’t work. Relax, enjoy nature, and don’t miss your opportunity to inhale that breath of fresh air in Silver City, Michigan! |
